This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov during the opening speech at a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on 25 January 2012, when he charged the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry and the Ministry of Economy to develop a strategic national program for energy saving and energy efficiency.
“This task is not for one year. It requires huge resources and complex and balanced management decisions. But this is reality without alternatives.
Options and phasing of new energy policy are defined and supported by the decision of the National Security and Defense Council and the President.
The President instructed the Government to create and implement a long-term national program on energy saving and energy efficiency. I emphasize that this strategic program should not be an administering program, but primarily a process management program. That is, based on incentives for energy efficient technologies and norms that will stop the continuation of energy wastefulness”, stressed the Prime Minister.
Along with this Mykola Azarov underlined that the implementation of the energy saving and energy efficiency program - “is a task for each member of the Government and for each chairman of regional administration within their competences.”
Mykola Azarov also appealed to citizens to support the government in implementing this task in order to achieve a common goal: “We should pass this way. And pass along with our citizens, with their support and understanding. This is a historical moment when society has to find solidarity and defend their right to a higher quality of life. Because reducing energy consumption and reliance on own resources as a result mean increasing incomes of people and reduction of prices and tariffs.”
