EC Energy Sector Budget Programme

Until the end of 2006 EU provided its assistance to Ukraine through TACIS Programme launched in 1991. For the period of 2007–2013 instruments of financial aid have been replaced by the European Neighbourhood Policy Instrument (ENPI). The ENPI introduced in 2007 provides general/sector budget support (and other aid instruments) in addition to technical assistance to ENP countries, whereas the TACIS programme only allowed for technical assistance.

Energy Community Congratulates Ukraine

Energy Community Congratulates Ukraine Yesterday Energy Community congratulated ratification of Protocol on accession of Ukraine to Energy Community Agreement:

“We are overwhelmed by the ratification and we congratulate Ukraine! Today the honourable members of the Verkhovna Rada have sent a very strong signal in favour of the rule of law and integration with the European energy market. There is no doubt that Ukraine’s accession positively affects the Energy Community process, giving to it new dimensions. The Secretariat will further rely on the excellent cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities. And we will work hard to make sure Ukraine gets efficient support in the implementation of its obligations under the Treaty”, stated Mr. Slavtcho Neykov, Director of the Energy Community Secretariat.

As a next step, Ukraine is expected to notify to the Secretary General of the Council of the European Union as the Depository for the Treaty. This will complete the accession procedures. Thus, it is expected that in early 2011, Ukraine will become the tenth Party to the Energy Community.
